Maison Zitoun is more than just a webshop for olive oil, spices, and gifts. We are a Ghent-based company with Tunisian roots, built on the conviction that extra virgin olive oil is a craft. Our Chemlali olives grow in the salty coastal air of Northern Tunisia, where the same craftsmanship has been passed down for generations.
Every bottle you receive in Belgium is cold-pressed shortly after harvesting, tested for acidity, and carefully packaged in our Maison Zitoun tins. With a maximum acidity of 0.3% (guaranteed by laboratory tests from our press), our olive oil is among the top of what is sold worldwide as extra virgin.
Whether you are looking for premium olive oil for daily use, a refined gift for a connoisseur, or a Mediterranean corporate gift: at Maison Zitoun, you will find premium Extra Virgin olive oil, handmade ceramics, herbs, olives, and accessories that make a difference in every kitchen and on every table.
Frequently asked questions
-
Chemlali is a typical Tunisian olive variety with a milder, fruitier profile than the more pungent Italian Coratina or the robust Spanish Picual. It is excellent for finishing fish, salads, fresh cheese, and even desserts. Its soft, rounded flavour also makes Chemlali ideal for those just beginning to discover premium olive oils.
-
Our premium Extra Virgin olive oil has a shelf life of 2 years, hence the best-before date clearly stated on every package. The ideal storage temperature is between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius, in a dark place - our tin and ceramic packaging fully protects the oil from light.
After the best-before date, the oil is not spoiled, but it loses its fruity undertones and flavour intensity. This makes it less suitable for finishing dishes such as salads, fish, or fresh cheese. However, the oil remains perfectly usable for baking or frying - so you certainly don't have to throw it away immediately. -
Our Chemlali olives are harvested in northern Tunisia, where the Mediterranean climate and mineral-rich coastal soil create a unique flavour profile. The olives are hand-picked and cold-pressed in a Tunisian press that meets all modern standards for food safety and hygiene. The oil is bottled on-site in Tunisia in our tin packaging and then transported to Belgium, where each shipment is stored under temperature-controlled conditions.

That's a valid question - and one we're happy to be transparent about. Many people think that olive oil from outside Europe is subject to less strict controls than European olive oil. In reality, the opposite is true.
Because our Chemlali olive oil comes from outside the European Union, each batch undergoes a double chain of controls before it reaches your table. In Tunisia, the oil is analysed for, among other things, acidity and taste quality. Upon arrival in Belgium, customs and the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) carry out new controls, with mandatory certificates of origin, health, and quality.
The result: more lab tests, more official certificates, and more control points than an average bottle of olive oil from within the EU. For you as a customer, that means one thing: you get a pure, unblended premium Extra Virgin olive oil where every link in the chain is traced and certified. No surprises, no hidden blends, just top quality!
